  • Biographical Sketch:


    The “Mexican Border War” refers to the several military engagements along the U.S./Mexico border during the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1920, more commonly known as the “Border War” or “Border Campaign.” The correspondence in this collection to describes the Pancho Villa Expedition, also known as the Mexican Expedition and Punitive Expedition, into Mexico by U.S. military forces led by General John J. “Blackjack” Pershing from 1916 to 1917. The expedition was launched in retaliation for Pancho Villa’s attack on the New Mexican town of Columbus.

    Scope and Content:


    The Mexican Border War Records consist almost entirely of correspondence to and from Eugene Tower from El Paso, Texas during the U.S. Punitive Expedition into Mexico, and date from July 2 to October 11, 1916.
