This letter written by Marvin Jones to President Franklin Roosevelt is the ten millionth item in the Southwest Collection. It is dated July 11, 1933, and is addressed to Franklin Delano Roosevelt from Marvin Jones (1886-1976). Jones, a twelve-term U.S. Congressman who chaired the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, also served as chief justice of the U.S. Court of Claims. In this letter Jones recommends that the Federal Government assume control of the Federal Reserve Banks. He also suggests that while farms and city housing have been subsidized, those homes falling outside of these categories should also receive government aid. Both of these suggestions were key items of debate during the New Deal Era.en_US
