Description

Born in 1892, R. L. (Robert Lee) Slaughter was the grandson of C. C. Slaughter and was a rancher, oilman, and entrepreneur. From 1915-1916, he operated the family's 300,000 acre ranch in Sonora, Mexico, until he was forced to leave as a result of the Mexican Revolution. Afterwards, he operated the family ranch in West Texas and then became involved with the growth of the oil industry in Hockley County, Texas. R. L. died 1969.
The collection contains correspondence, financial materials, maps, and photographs. A majority of the financial documents relate to the operation of the ranch and with correspondence between R. L. Slaughter, Jr. and Ira Wells regarding operation of the ranch.
