dc.descriptionThe short descriptions of the surveys given on these maps are in the greater part prepared from surveys made with a view to this report. In other instances they are given from personal knowledge and long acquaintance with the lands. The Ranch of the Matador Land and Cattle Company is situated at the southern extremity of the panhandle of Texas, and embraces parts of Motley, Cottle, Dickens, and Floyd counties. The surveys have additional specific legend symbols for 1st Class Agriculture, 2nd Class Agriculture, 3rd Class Agriculture, 1st Class Grazing, 2nd Class Grazing, and 3rd Class Grazing.
dc.descriptionThe Matador Land and Cattle Company Records, of which this item is a part, also includes financial and legal material, land records, payrolls, herd books, range diaries, Board of Director's minutes, correspondence between the Dundee, Scotland office and American offices and ranches, and correspondence among the British investors. Correspondence between the managers and division superintendents includes: Murdo Mackenzie, Alexander Mackay, Alfred Markham Britton, Henry Harrison Campbell, William Sommerville, Arthur B. Ligertwood, John MacBain, J.M. Jackson, John Mackenzie, Maurice J. Reilly, Lewis F. Robertson and John V. Stevens. Also included is Murdo Mackenzie's correspondence from Brazil when he served as manager of the Brazil Land, Cattle, and Packing Company from 1912 to 1917.
