["Bill"] THOMSON was the head driller on this the Underwriters Producing & Refining Company's Abrams (Texas & Pacific Railway Co. Land Trust) Well No. 1 near Westbrook, Mitchell County, Texas, spudded in 1919 and completed in July 1920 as the first paying producer of oil in the entire Permian Basin. From Left to Right, standing on pipe rack, Bill Thomson and Dan Lewis (both drillers). October 31, 1979 Lee Jones, Jr. 2-5-81 Underwriters Producing & Refining Company's Abrams Well No. 1 [Abrams was one of the Trustees of Texas & Pacific Railroad Co. Land Trust] located NW Westbrook, Mitchell County, Texas, completed in 1920 as the first paying producer of oil in the Permian Basin -- still producing as an output well in Fina's SE Westbrook waterflood project as Unit Well No. 701. Lee Jones, Jr. The Underwriters Producing & Refining Company's Abrams Well No. 1, located near Westbrook in Mitchell County, Texas, was spudded in 1919 and completed in July, 1920 as the first paying producer of oil in the entire Permian Basin. A two-mile pipeline was built from the well to the Texas & Pacific Railroad to transport oil to El Paso to The Rio Grande Oil Refinery.en_US
