Photograph of professors Kristiansen and Mitra. The accompanying press release states: "ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING -- A new look has invaded the Department of Electrical Engineering at Texas Tech with the addition of Dr. Sunanda Mitra as the first woman to be engaged in electrical engineering research at the university. Dr. Mitra is working with Prof. Magne Kristiansen, left, and Prof. Marion O. Hagler in thermonuclear research. Dr. Mitra's advanced degrees were earned at the University of Calcutta and Marburgh University in West Germany. Her husband, Dr. Arun K. Mitra, is on the mathematics faculty at Texas Tech. They have two children, Rana, 8, and Rita, 5. Mrs. Mitra helped organize the International Club of Lubbock's YWCA and last year was chairman of the university's International Faculty Women's Club.
