Info card attached reads: In WWII, at Bastogne, when the Germans asked him to surrender, his answer was "nuts." He received that message on December 22, 1944. At that time he was Acting Commander of the 101st Airborne Division in the absence of General Maxwell D. Taylor, who was in Washington at the time on a brief assignment. By Schlaikjer, 1946.en_US
