Robert Jeffry Morris was born on August 12, 1940 in Jackson Heights, Long Island, New York. He received his M.A. from the University of North Carolina in 1967 and his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1968. Both degrees were in Spanish. He was hired in the fall of 1971 as an assistant professor in the Department of Classical and Romance Languages and was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 1973. His last day with Texas Tech was on August 31, 1991.
