Description
1963 photograph of Kay Kagay and David Bennett holding the first graduate diploma at Texas Technological College which had been awarded to Bailey Carroll in 1928. The photo appeared in the June 2, 1963 issue of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal with the caption "Tech's First Graduate Diploma - Kay Kagay and Dale Bennett, Texas Tech seniors from Dallas, look over a copy of Tech's first master's degree diploma as they eagerly await their own graduation ceremonies Monday night. The degree, containing a hand-written notation from Tech's first president, Paul Horn, was conferred in August, 1928, on Dr. Horace Bailey Carroll, now professor of history at the University of Texas. Carroll has returned the diploma to Tech's Southwest Collection for preservation (Tech photo)."
