Abstract
Description
The digital file consists of four issues of the Tex Talks publication published by the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association. The February, 1957, issue is four pages long and includes such topics as the Student Council's revisiting the controversial topic of a student activity fee; the January 11th groundbreaking of the new men's dormitory; the upcoming installation of Mortar Board on February 9th; the progress status on a 16-mm color film about Texas Tech; the self service format of the new wing of the college bookstore; the installment of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society; and speech students to plan their own course according to the needs of the class.
The April, 1957, issue is four pages long and includes such topics as Tech students leading a petition for teacher pay raises; initiation of 20 charter members of Phi Alpha Theta; two Tech professors awarded Fulbright grants; a new book on the establishment of Texas Technological College; a recap of the All-College Recognition Services awards; Home Economics establishment of a HE apprentice program; and the School of Business Administration's first annual careers conference.
The July, 1957, issue is four pages long and includes such topics as Tech planning to petition for a Sigma Xi chapter; acceptance of a chapter of Tau Delta Tau at Tech; and the donation of microfilm from Sears containing every issue of the Sears-Roebuck Co. catalog from 1892-1957.
The November, 1957, issue is four pages long and includes such topics as approval for expanding Jones Stadium; the addition of an engineering physics degree; Tech's application for a TV station; the 3-1 men to women enrollment ratio; the offering of a specialized cotton gin course, Home Economics allowing certain students to use their homes as labs rather than residing in the Home Management House; the passing of former Tech athlete Ransom Walker; the installation of the Phi Delta Kappa chapter on July 20th; and the Southwest Collection's recent gift of historical documents from Howard Hampton.
