Inscription (on back): This old surface pipe was left in the old Colorado-Texas Petroleum Company' W. L. Foster No. 1 near Iatan, Mitchell County, Texas. This well was spudded on or about April 27, 1917, completed as the 2nd paying producer of oil in the Permian Basin on or about May 13, 1921 the date on which it was placed on the pump; however, as early as November, 1920, oil in paying quantities was swabbed from this well after 2 shots of nitro. See Jones, The Fabulous Foster No. 1, pp. 52-55, Permian Historical Annual (1973) and Lore & Legend, pp. 207-208 (1976). According to Luchini's Plat, attached hereto and made a part hereof, this well was located 1317' from EL and 388' from the NL of section 43, Blk. 29, T-1-N, T&P Ry. Co., Mitchell County, Texas. On or about June 26, 1970, George Abell caused this old pipe to be cut off and removed to Midland, Texas, where it now rests in the PBPM.
