James Rankin Gammill was born on February 10, 1911, in Rotan, Texas. He B.S. and M.S degrees in Education from Texas Technological College. He was hired as a Part-Time Instructor at Texas Tech in 1952 and became an Assistant Professor in 1957. He retired as an Associate Professor in 1972 and passed away on December 4, 1978.
