Weldon Ernest Beckner was born on January 14, 1933 in Clayton, New Mexico. He received his M.Ed. in School Administration from Texas Technological College in 1959 and his Ed.D. in 1966 from the University of Colorado. He was hired as an Assistant Professor of Education at Texas Tech in 1965. At the rank of Professor, Beckner took leave from his position in 1992.
