Robert A. Moreland was born on March 27, 1931 in Jayton, Texas. He received his B.S.in 1953 and M.S. in 1954, with both degrees in Mathematics from Texas Technological College. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas in 1970. At Texas Tech, from 1953-54, he served as a teaching fellow and then was hired on as instructor from 1955-1959. In September, 1959, he became an assistant professor. He was promoted to Associate professor of mathematics in 1972.
