John Muir writes of a small black dog, owned by the Rev. S.H. Young, which accompanied them on the 1880 exploration of Alaska. The book includes a poem "To My Dog Blanco" by J.G. Holland.

This is Muir's description of his travels through Yosemite Valley, beginning in 1868. The book is illustrated with photographs and includes three folded maps. The book's spine is broken.
