Abstract

“All of the books in this list are intensely interesting. They were written by the close friend and companion of Buffalo Bill—Colonel Prentiss Ingraham. They depict actual adventures which this pair of hard-hitting comrades experienced, while the story of these adventures is interwoven with fiction; historically the books are correct”—Preliminary pages.

Prentiss Ingraham was born in Mississippi in 1843. He joined the Confederate Army in 1861 and was wounded twice during his tour of duty . Ingraham served with Ross’s brigade of the Texas cavalry. In 1884 he met Buffalo Bill and worked as an advance agent for the Wild West Show. Ingraham wrote 600 dime novels, many of them about Buffalo Bill, purportedly based on actual events.
