The Office of Public Information was responsible for handling the public relations aspects of Texas Tech University. This department has been called several names over the years, including Photographic Services, Public Information, and University News and Publications. The office maintained subject files for research purposes, assisted in ascertaining accuracy of facts regarding the university, and provided editorial and technical work for production of various campus publications. It also tracked articles on the university and its faculty, staff and facilities that appear in newspapers and magazines. The office also coordinated interviews and press conferences and aided in the creation of media plans for major campus events. Currently, this office now goes by the name of the Office of Communications and Marketing.
