Abstract

These records consist of the office files of Daniel H. Benson, one of the plaintiff attorneys in the Single Member District Discrimination suit filed in Lubbock, Texas. The records concern the appeal of the ruling of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. It was a "class action suit on behalf of all Black and Mexican American citizens in the City of Lubbock to challenge the at large election system [then] used to elect council men to the City Council"--P. 1. The original suit was filed in 1976 and the ruling was appealed in 1979.
