Description
Undated photograph of the Tech campus looking northwest. This old aerial of Tech, possibly taken in 1949 (?), has several interesting items of note. 1) look how open the campus is, there's not much in the way of tall trees; 2) with the Science Building yet constructed there was a road that ran right through what would become the Science Quad; 3) the east and west wings of the Administration Building are under construction with only the basement walls done; 4) all the temporary buildings attest to the need for more classroom and laboratory space as Tech continued to grow in student enrollment. There are 7 temporary buildings behind Holden Hall alone; 5) the three temporary buildings south of the Administration Building are Recreation Hall and band buildings. This is now the site of the Student Union Building and Music Building; 6) the President's Home was nicely situated with surrounding trees and hedges giving it a sense of private residence; and 7) there were a lot more Tech Farm buildings than originally thought.
