Pictorial postcard Undated image of wooden oil rig and derrick with either oil or steam. Caption on image reads "Badgitt #1. Mitchell Co. Oil Corp. Colorado -- Texas." PBPM 79-039.038.07 Inscription (on back): Old Badgett "salt" well in Mitchell County, Texas just off State Highway 208 on road to Ira. This well flowed heavy brine for months - salt covered about 40 acres - well flowed salt water so long that salt collection on old wooden derick caused it to collapse - well was drilled in early or middle 20's. Lee Jones 3-26-75 Note: H.P. ("Cap") Slagel et al. later reentered this well and reccovered some of the old cable tools and lines. L.J. 6-26-77 Postcard is postmarked Colorado, Tex February 17, 1923 and is addressed to Mr. J. W. Slagel at 270 Main Street in Pomeroy, Ohio.
