Description
Undated image of engine in motion working.
PBPM 79-039.011
Inscription (on back): This engine was run on "air" by H. P. "Cap." Slagel in drilling a well on the old Murphy Place near Ira, Scurry County, Texas according to letter from George Black to Lee Jones, Jr., dated 18 November 1969. L.J. 03-06-70
This is a picture of an ordinary old field type of steam engine being operated on "air" (actually almost pure nitrogen) from the same pocket of so-called "air" encountered in the so-called Badgitt "salt well", by H. P. ("Cap") Slagel and Herbert C. ("Bert") Irvin when and while drilling shallow wells in the Ira Field of Mitchell-Scurry Counties, Texas. See envelope containing data and pictures of the Badgitt well for more details.

(enclosed note:) 79-39 November 2, 1979
Reference is made to envelope containing negatives and picture of an oil field type of steam engine being run on the so-called "air" (actually nitrogen) from the same underground pocket of "air" which destroyed the Mitchell County Oil Corporation's derrick over, and tools and other equipment used in connection with, its Badgitt Well No. 1.
