Abstract

Description

The digital file consists of four issues of the Tex Talks publication published by the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association. The February, 1955, issue is four pages long and lists the names of alumni donors to the Loyalty Fund and mentions the Board of Directors' approval for Ruth Horn Andrews to write a history of the college.
The May, 1955, issue is four pages long and includes such topics as the broadcasting of Texas Tech Day over the radio and how the various local chapters will celebrate the day; the Board's request to the Texas Legislature to allow the leasing of land to fraternities and sororities for housing; the retirement of three professors who had been with the college since its early years; the case of the missing calfskin; the scarcity of women enrolled in the Agriculture Division; the passing of Carl Coke Rister; work on an atom smasher; the expansion of the athletic program; and faculty awards.
The July, 1955, issue is four pages long and includes such topics as the effort to coordinate work between Tech and A&M to benefit Texas agriculture; opportunities for foreign study, study grants and fellowships; a Tech thesis on time bombs; awards for the college's promotional literature; the library's acquisition of additional newspaper microfilm; speech students visiting the set of the film Giant; and the acceptance of five Tech engineering graduate students to MIT.
The November, 1955, issue is four pages long and includes such topics as the upcoming Homecoming celebrations; the president's summary on challenges facing the college; a recap of the college's first 30 years; the formal installation of the Epsilon Nu Chapter of Sigma Chi; radiation research on animals; challenges with faculty and facility shortages due to increased enrollment; a sports recap; and an interview with an Indian graduate student on the career situation with graduates of his country.
