"The Catalyst" is comprised of 12 pages of student written articles, satires and political statements. This issue covered topics such as LBJ's visit to Lubbock; federal court ruling on banning of the student newspaper "The Rag"; the hosting of the 5th State Chicano Conference in Lubbock; Tech students illegally taking over seats in Jones Stadium; the Texas Democratic Convention; Charlie Guy receiving an honorary doctorate from Texas Tech; Lubbock's United Fund campaign; Lubbock County budget; an upcoming Q&A with Tech Administration and student; support for married housing on campus; former Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas's visit to Lubbock; and the musical group Sha Na Na's visit to Lubbock. The issue is dated August 26 - October 1-14, 1970, and sold for 25 cents.
