Broadway and Avenue J Page Eight As Others See It By "SALLY" LINDSEY Upsets galore have featured this year's football games, and thoroughly garbled up everybody's idea of the best teams in the country. After some pondering over that matter, however, we decided to hazard a guess as to the outstanding elevens in the football world this season, and came to the conclusion that the one team which stood out above the rest was Minnesota. Reports from Gophertown have it that Bernie Bierman has two men for every position so good that they are interchangeable, and that he has no one first-string team. In the East Princeton looks like she will repeat her last Year's success and come through the winner in all of her battles. Tulane and Alabama are the best that the South can offer this year, neither one of them, by any means, a sneak team. The West is a complete muddle, with the Galloping Gaels from St. Mary's emerging as probably the best. Rumor has it that one of "Slip" Madigan's soph halfbacks, with an mmronouncabl, name, is one of the greatest ever seen out in sunny California and an almost sure shot for all-American. Minnesota, St. Mary's, Princeton, Tulane and Alabama look like the class. But, with the season only half over, no . en, of the five mentioned can be sure of anything. Upsets and accidents, a the old saying goes, will and still hap- pen. If you ever catch Harry Kipke engaged in something that looks like studying, chances are he'll be busy memorizing the name of his big, University of Michigan sophomore end, Pat Pa:anelli. The other day Kipke was pointing to members of his squad lined cp before a motion picture earners, and was describing them into the sound equipment. Ha was going along well until he came to Mat Patanelli. He couldn't remember his name. He said something like "a-a-a-ah" under his breath. and ended up loudly with "Elkart, Indiana." Later a correction was made in the movie, and Kipke marched up to make his apologies. "All I could think of was spaghetti," he blushed. 00 Compliments--- to the Matadors Matador Club Texas Tech from Southwestern Associated Telephone Co. Coach Mack Saxon's aggregation was named as a member of the loop at the conclusion of the consign last year. The Miner. were selected from among four clubs including the West Texas Buffaloes seeking entrance into the circuit. According to Mentors Saxon and Phillips, a well-balanced and strong defensive football team will line up against the Matadors tonight. The El Paso machine is built around seven letter wearers from last year and a host of junior college transfers. Johnny Kirkpatrick full blooded In-diem from Paris, will probably see service in the Miner secondary tonighL Texas School of Mines has a Woodrow Wilson. sophomore back, to do the kicking and his share of the ba carrying. The running attack is built around the luminary who scored against both Southern Methodist and Texas university last season. A player bearing the first two names of the Matador head coach, Peter Willis, will take his turn in the visiting back-. field. Cody Fordrell, 135 pound ball lugger of Fredrick, Okla., is the outstanding gridder among the transfers on the School of Mines squad. The Sooner state boy was formerly a member of Cameron Aggies and is a 10 second man. Besides his speed, he excels in returning punts. Another speed demon among the invaders is Richard Hourigan, El Paso boy. He is a midget player, weighing but 150 pound, but is fast and elusive.
